OAKWOOD DENTIST RECEIVES THREE PRESTIGIOUS FELLOWSHIPS FROM THE ACADEMY OF GENERAL DENTISTRY, THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF IMPLANT DENTISTRY AND THE AMERICAN ORTHODONTIC SOCIETY.

– The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) is pleased to announce that Michael Collier, D.D.S., of Oakwood, Georgia, received the prestigious Fellowship Award during the AGD’s largest Convocation ceremony, a commencement celebration that recognizes AGD members’ commitment to excellence in dental education. Held at the AGD’s Annual Meeting on June 30, 2007 in San Diego, Dr. Collier accepted this award along with 350 other recipients.

The Fellowship Award is presented to dentists looking to provide the highest quality of dental care by remaining current in their profession. In order to receive this award, Dr. Collier completed well over 500 hours of continuing dental education, passed a comprehensive written exam and fulfilled three years of specified continuing membership with the AGD. As a recipient of this award, Dr. Collier has joined an elite group of 14,000 members of the world-wide dental community who understand that great smiles and good oral health for their patients are the result of going above andbeyond basic educational and clinical requirements. The Fellowship Award symbolizes excellence in the dental profession and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care.

The AGD is a professional association of more and 35,000 dentists dedicated to staying up-to-date in the profession through continuing education. Founded in 1952, the AGD has grown to become the world’s second largest dental association, which is the only association that exclusively represents the needs and interests of general dentists.

“This is an outstanding accomplishment for Dr. Collier,” says AGD President Vincent Mayher, DMD, MAGD. “By completing the rigorous requirements to become a Fellow, Dr. Collier goes above and beyond basic licensure requirements in his state to keep his practice on the cutting edge. He takes extra dental education to provide his patients with the very best in dental care. These awards truly distinguish Dr. Collier from others in the dental community.”

He also received two other Fellowship Awards in November, 2007 from The American Academy of Implant Dentistry and The American Orthodontic Society. He says, “The most challenging aspect of obtaining three Fellowships simultaneously wasn’t the time spent studying, but all the time I had to be away from my family. It required many years of commitment, study, oral exams, written exams and completion of hundreds of hours of continuing education.

This is an ongoing endeavor for personally striving to achieve higher levels of education in order to stay abreast of the ever-changing trends, techniques and innovations in contemporary dental practice.” Dr. Collier graduated from Emory University, and currently practices dentistry in Oakwood. He offers all aspects of general family dentistry as well as surgical implants, cosmetic dental procedures and orthodontics provided by a general dentist. In addition to the AGD, AAID, AND AOS. Dr. Collier is a member of The Academy of General Dentistry.

“Studying the newest and most innovative dental procedures is exciting and makes dentistry more than just my profession,” says Dr. Collier. He is also an accomplished organist, has attained the Service Playing and Colleague degrees from The American Guild of Organists and has completed the performance requirements for the Associate degree. Michael is married to Pat and they have one son, John. He also has two adult children, Michelle and Michael, and two grandchildren, Hazel and Payton.
